Best Salon for Brides…Say What?!?
Posted on August 09, 2010 | (0) Comments
This blog post is really action packed....If you haven't heard, New Leaf was pretty darn excited to win Rhode Island Monthly magazine's 'Best Salon for Brides' Category in the 2010 issue...
In Rhode Island, it's a pretty big deal, and while we work really hard to make sure all our brides look and feel drop dead gorgeous on their wedding day, it's extra special when it becomes 'official'.
Imagine our ultimate surprise to see a full page photo and very nice write-up in the magazine! A few months back, RI Monthly called asking if they could come in to take some photos of our Bridal Lounge because they wanted to do a story on it. Um, sure thing. Tell us when and where.
I needed to find a bride and STAT! We had 5 days. One of our long time New Leafers, Katie Urbanic, was due for her hair and make up trial and I knew she is always game for anything. Only problem was making sure she was in the country....She's lived in Montreal, Minnesota, Florida and I found her in Canada. To New Leaf's luck, she was conveniently moving back to Boston and agreed! Gotta love a flexible bride...
We should probably let her know she's now a magazine centerfold;-)
Fast forward a few months and relocate Amy G, Ashley and me (Courtney) to The Viking Hotel in Newport and it's time for Katie and Dom's wedding! Katie is getting the Hollywood Star Treatment...hair & make-up simultaneaously.

Amy G always finds herself in precarious positions....She promises to never get frisky but she can't speak for the groom once he sees Katie after we're done with her!

Notice the faithful brideslave working on Katie's nails? Just kidding, Katie wasn't ordering her around, her bridesMAID just wanted to help!
Ashley doing her thaaaang....

The finished product...

Ashley added these pretty coral silk flowers to all the bridesmaids' hairstyles...

Amy G making sure everyone looks perfect in the natural light!

Now, we knew our friends at Snap! Photography would be doing their usual beautiful work for Katie's wedding. Why we even bother to take our 'after' shots when they are there is beyond me. It's just sets us up for pathetic let down because our photography is abysmal. Just to see why everyone should hire a professional....

Katie wanted waves, not curl, but knowing there was going to be 3-4 hours of Snap!pers snapping, I assured her that the curls would settle into waves. And given the 105% humidity and 90+ temps, we get very anxious about our hair and make up lasting...

And now it's time for the beautiful work of Trish and Mariah at Snap! Photography...

Speaking of anxiety over the hair and make up lasting all day, let's count the locations...
Location #1: In front of what we think is First Beach in Newport...

oooo, so summery!

LOVE the gray and coral color combo...

Location #2: Thinking this might be Colt State Park in Bristol, RI

Aren't Katie and Dom so cute?!? (Okay, maybe gorgeous and sexy might be more accurate...)

Location #3: The 4th of July Carnival. Yes, CARNIVAL.

Just love it.

Now, if New Leaf was there hanging out with Trish, Mariah, Katie and company, we would be having panic attacks over all this activity with the aforementioned hair frizz factor and make up melting....Then again, we'd bring our bag of arsenal like B & b Brilliantine, Classic Hairspray, curling irons, pins, pressed powder, lip gloss, etc.
We don't travel lightly.
Luckily, everything is holding up.

Awww, love this one. Katie and Dom had their reception at Rosecliff Mansion in Newport. She booked the place without ever seeing it. Pretty sure she loved it!

If you want to see LOTS more photos of Katie, check out Part 1, Part 2, and Part 3 on Snap!'s blog....
A HUGE thanks to Katie for choosing New Leaf, for helping out with our RI Monthly photoshoot, and for being a faithful New Leafer, even when the distance was a 4 hour flight!
Another special thanks to Snap! for 'donating' their hard work to a worthy cause...New Leaf's bridal blog. We can always use great photos...HINT, HINT past brides!
